Using Tissue Paper for Background

Here is the supply list of what you need for your background: 

  • Painted Tissue Paper
  • Acrylic Matte Medium
  • Paper towels
  • Palette
  • Water container
  • Paint Brushes, larger size
  • Journal Pages to paint backgrounds on 
  • Piece of chalk 
  • Scissors

    The video showing how you decide on placement, apply the matt medium and manipulate the paper as you adhere it is so helpful. I really love the gradation from blue to turquoise. I’ll have to watch the video several times as my computer and work area are separate. I am so accustomed to air traffic and noise I am not distracted at all. Very helpful video indeed. It makes me hopeful I can achieve mastery of this technique.

    Painted Tissue – did you paint the tissue yourself (and if so, what did you use), or did you purchase it already colored?

    • Andrea, I painted the tissue paper with the same paints I use in the rest of the journal. I go into detail about the process in the Marbling and More class. Purchased paper will also work.

    I appreciate the tip about using chalk to outline, and I love how the runner profile turned out! Did you know you can sharpen chalk for a finer line if needed? That’s something I learned recently, and it’s come in handy for me. 🙂
