The Unexpected Comes Calling

The good, the bad, and the beautiful – Life is a package. It is why I haven’t been online much the past few weeks. A good thing is our son unexpectedly came home for five days last week. It was a sweet time of being together as a family, of reconciliation, of love, and just plain fun. It’s not often I get to be with our three grown children at the same time. Mid-January I focused intensely on a project started in 2014. I felt the Spirit’s prompting and power as I got up to work in the wee hours of… Read More

My New Simplified Bullet Journal

Snow storm, cancelled classes, cleaning out and organizing studio spaces. For me it goes along with getting my everyday, calendar journal ready for the year. This simplified bullet journal gives me lots of freedom as I begin to live out my word of the year: FREE as in “be free.” By simplified I mean, not a lot of “to-do” lists or coding, unless I want to, but more of a loose design format to happily contain my thoughts, prayers, dreams, and activities of the year. Journal writing and research make up much of my everyday journal, but I want to jazz it… Read More

Uplifting Colors of the Year!

This year my focus colors were the theme that came early on. Having a starting color palette of about three colors helps jumpstart my journal and my creative year. I’ve found the palette finds its way into my art and even my wardrobe. This year, I did something different in using the bright, spring colors for my January calendar. I’ve never chose unseasonal colors like that for the winter month of January. But this year I have a strong sense of new beginning, of growth, of stepping out in faith. So, I took a baby step with those colors in… Read More

FREE – a Hopeful, Surprising Word of the Year

2017 is a year of Freedom! As this year unfolds, I am focusing on being free – making statements like “I am free to ____________________.” “I am free from _____________________.” “Be free to ___________________” etc. I plan to include these “free” pages throughout my everyday calendar journal, exploring ideas and options without pressure. I have a feeling they will bring enjoyment and fun to the concept of a free art-making process. Such as, I am free to play with Washi tape in my journal… Looking up the definition of my word of the year is one of the most helpful… Read More

Transition 2016-2017, Disappointment or Hope?

Happy New Year! I love this time of year of NEW Beginnings! What do you do to celebrate? I treat myself to a new journal to write and doodle freely in each January. It comes fresh and new, with pristine pages full of possibility. It always makes me wonder what will fill them in the coming days. One thing for sure is it will include my word of the year. FREE But what if looking back on this year and looking ahead brings a sense of disappointment? Disappointment has been a key factor in my year of personal progress. On… Read More

Welcome Winter Solstice ~ Advent Light

I love this day. It is when, here in the Pacific Northwest, the daylight begins to get longer and the darkness begins to subside. It seems fitting to post this video below about the Light of the World today, the evening of Winter Solstice. It was published earlier in September on my new website, and just now on YouTube. I hope you enjoy it and shine! “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you… Read More

Revisiting and Updating Christmas

I am filled with gratitude! Two days before Thanksgiving our baby granddaughter was able to come home after spending 48 days in the NICU. How fortunate we are to have been able to celebrate her homecoming with our daughter and son-in-love and family. We rented a house near their home in Seattle for the holiday weekend and spent time eating good food, playing games, going on outside adventures, and taking turns holding our sweet new baby granddaughter. One of my favorite memories was staying up with our older daughter playing games and our younger daughter joining us when it was… Read More

Rest and Reset – Getting Ready for the New!

“Rest & Reset” were words given to me earlier this fall to describe this season. Insights to those two words kept showing up, numerous times, even in my emails.  At the time, I didn’t know what “reset” meant for me, or how I was going to “rest” with all that was on my list. Then it all changed. My priorities were suddenly refocused and reorganized. In a totally unexpected way, the events of the past month have brought about a new kind of rest: being out of town, waiting in the hospital, making consistent and healthy meals, not being able to make plans more… Read More

Experiencing a Visual Word Study of Grace

Experiencing a Visual Word Study I’ve been thinking a lot about grace these past two months. Grace is a word I am familiar with, but the experience of grace sometimes seems illusive. Now is one of those times. The verses in Matthew 11:28-30 kept coming to mind and I remembered the phrase that captured me the first time I read it in The Message Bible:  “Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.” Jesus said to his followers, “Are you tired? Worn out?… Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a rest. Walk with… Read More
