The Yearning of Advent

I think the Charles Dickens quote above tells of the desire of each of our hearts about Christmas, heart-felt longings of belonging, being home, warm and safe, with people we love. Hope stirs.

After talking with a number of people this year, I find for many of us, the season also brings a measure of sadness. Christmases past, Christmases that never happened, and especially the loss of loved ones. Then there is the waiting, praying and hoping for healing of relationships and actual physical healing of those who are ill. As I wait for the stuff of life, (like the registration issue to be solved so I can launch the online classes), I ponder and pray about the bigger people needs, asking God what He is doing, where He is in the situation, and how can I get His perspective, in order to agree with Him as I pray.

Lord, what do I need? My friend needs healing and hope! You are the Great Healer! You are Good, the God of the Universe! We need You! You are the one who invaded our world 2000 years ago, becoming one of us, giving hope as you gave Zachariah in prophesying your coming:

"Through the heartfelt mercies of our God,

God's Sunrise will break in upon us,

Shining on those in the darkness,

those sitting in the shadow of death,

Then showing us the way,

one foot at a time,

down the path of peace."

Then you sent your angel to Mary who told her:

"Nothing, you see, is impossible with God."

-from Luke 1

in The Message Bible

Lord God of Angel Armies,

I boldly ask You,

reveal Yourself to us today.

Help us recognize you in the moment,

in the pain, in those around us.

I want to encounter You,

be one with You,

covered by your Peace,

consumed by your Love.

O Living Light of Hope

break in upon us!

Valerie

Blessings of hope and peace to you today!
