Bible Journaling with Stencils & Gelatos® Inspiration
It’s not often I try a new medium and it gets added to my list of “must haves” but the Faber-Castell Gelatos® have become one of those mediums for me, especially when it comes to Bible Journaling with stencils.
The Gelatos® are the perfect companion with stencils! So easy to get a nice, crisp edge and so easy to clean off with a damp cloth or baby wipe. In addition to using Gelatos® in my Journaling Bible, I use them in my everyday Moleskine and Leuchturrm journals too.
Using Gelatos® as a dry media instead of paint when coloring backgrounds and stenciling is wonderful! The soft, creamy smoothness is like no other media on the paper. As a wet media they become permanent, or nearly so.
In the new online E-Course Bible Journaling with Stencils & More I walk through the step-by-step process on video of using Gelatos® on backgrounds and stenciling as a dry media, as well as painting a background and Bible margin as a wet medium. They mix beautifully with pen and colored pencils too.
If you want to learn more about how to use Gelatos® in easy and painterly ways on your Bible pages, you’ll love my new E-Course Bible Journaling with Stencils & More. The stencils used in the lessons are stencils I’ve designed with Bible Journaling in mind. They can also be used for other art applications of course, and the techniques taught in the class can be useful with any stencils. Below is a video that shows a way to use Gelatos® and pen with a stencil to create a beautiful Bible margin. The video below is shown more speedy than the videos in the E-Course, but shows an easy and effective process of applying Gelatos® and embellishing with pen.
Here is the new collection of Stencils I’ve designed that have been produced by StencilGirl® Products. I will be using them along with one other in the Bible Journaling with Stencils & More E-Course. For more information visit the E-Course page on my website from the menu above. There are also some videos on the home page you can watch and more Bible Journaling inspiration on the Bible Journaling page under the Journals menu.
As far as which set/s to buy, here is what I’ve found so far: The Dolce 2 set is a good set and as far as I know the largest. There are a few metallics in the set which is nice. It doesn’t have the amount of blues and greens I use so I have added a set of Mix & Match Greens and a set of Mix & Match Blues. Four come in each set. It is good to check the names of what colors are in the Mix & Match sets before purchasing online. For example, I bought the “50s Diner set of colors, but found the same colors are in the Dolce 2 set. While in the middle of filming Bible Journaling with Stencils & More class, I bought the Iridescents set. They are beautiful, shimmery and have a good range of colors not in the other sets I have. My favorite way to apply Gelatos® with stencils is with a bright (short flat) bristle brush.
