Do you have a word to live by for the new year?
Have you received a word to live by in the upcoming year? Do you have too many options or not any ideas? If you find yourself in that place, or a place of excitement in looking or knowing, be confident you are in just the right place to move into a new, fresh beginning.
What if the place of feeling stuck is the place of transition and transformation? The place to pause and receive revelation? Personally, I was facing disappointment, wondering “What’s next?” Now I’m in a place accepting where I am at – a place of transparency, of letting go, surrender… of freedom.
“Look how a single candle can both defy and define the darkness.”
– Anne Frank
“Art reflects life” is a true statement. I was stuck at “L” in the alphabet for my A-Z of Mystery (word for 2018) journal. This “pause” has caused me to realize why. I have been researching the word for L, Light, for a very long time. There is no way I can put it all on two little pages. I didn’t even know where to begin. Knowing it doesn’t all have to be done right now is important for me to keep in mind. (I have an exciting discovery to share about Light, but that will be in another post.)
As soon as I saw the pages and process as a beginning instead of an end, I could move forward and give myself grace for the process, letting go of the visual outcome.
“If I ride the wings of the morning,
if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
even there your hand will guide me,
and your strength will support me.
I could ask the darkness to hide me and
the light around me to become night –
but even the darkness I cannot hide from you.
To you the night shines as bright as day.
Darkness and light are the same to you.”
– Psalm 139:9-12 NOG
Now it seems like just the right place, at the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, to continue exploring and discovering more about my word for 2019: LIGHT! Light as a noun, verb, and adjective. At this point I can’t see the bottom of the bucket of the possible discoveries. It is a “mystery.” I’m making connections between this year and next year, in words and in life.
Living Your Word Facebook Group Opportunity
In our Facebook group, Living Your Word of the Year, Bernice Hopper, Mary Brack, and I are giving participants the opportunity to live out an A-Z of their own word of the year. We don’t like a lot of rules, so we will have suggestions and options available to spark creativity throughout 2019.
I will be doing both, finishing the A-Z of Mystery and over the course of 2019, walking through the A-Z of Light. The difference is, I’m going to keep it light/lite in how I approach 2019’s A-Z, including it in my everyday journal and life.
It seems amazing that it’s possible to go from being discouraged to being excited. I am so grateful and hopeful as we close this year and cross over into a new year.
Blessings of gratitude and hope to you today!
