The Mystery of Music - M
in the A-Z of Mystery Journal

“Music expresses that which cannot be said
and on which it is impossible to be silent.”
– Victor Hugo

Music is what feelings sound like, it speaks where words fail, soothes the mind, flows from heaven to the soul, and sings the prayer of the heart.

Isn’t it amazing how music can bring back a memory so strong we feel the reliving of it. Music helps us remember facts. Remembering music is one of the things our brains hold onto, when other memories and facilities fade. I think music helps us connect to who we truly are and helps express our own personal song.

“Music unwraps the heart,
sings out the prayer,
dances the Spirit,
and opens the soul.”

Mary Davis

Life is a song. Love is the music.

Recently, our young grandson Caleb was talking to his Dad, Brian:

Caleb: Dad why is wisdom good?

Brian: It helps you make the right decisions. And helps you hear what God is saying.

Caleb: God doesn’t talk to me

Brian: He doesn’t talk to you out loud like we are talking. He talks to you on the inside and wisdom helps you determine whether its you or God.

Caleb: “Oh, that’s whose singing to me.”

I love that! Do you know God sings over you too?!

The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17 NKV

“Sing your melody of praise to the LORD
and make music like never before.”

Psalm 98:5 TPT

“Let’s sing His praises
Sing and put all His miracles
to music.”

Psalm 105:2 TPT

Vision – Valor – Victory ~ V in A-Z Word of the Year Challenge

V in the A-Z Word of the Year Challenge I was almost asleep one night recently when a phrase floated across my mind and I knew it spoke truth and asked to be written down. So I pulled myself out of bed and went to my journal to write: “Vision with Valor lead to Victory.” This got me thinking of what this means to me personally. I went to the first A-Z journal I did with Bernice Hopper’s challenge back in 2013. Here is my V for Vision for that: Vision is a key word for me right now, and… Read More

Living with Paradox – P in A-Z Word Challenge

Paradox is holding two opposites as true at the same time. We live in paradoxical times that have polarized relationships and our nation. Do You Have a Word to Live By for the New Year?

Do you have a word to live by for the new year? Have you received a word to live by in the upcoming year? Do you have too many options or not any ideas? If you find yourself in that place, or a place of excitement in looking or knowing, be confident you are in just the right place to move into a new, fresh beginning. What if the place of feeling stuck is the place of transition and transformation? The place to pause and receive revelation? Personally, I was facing disappointment, wondering “What’s next?” Now I’m in a place… Read More

Looking Forward – Looking Back – Living Now – My Word of the Year

Looking Back – Looking Forward – Living Now My Word of the Year It’s that time of year when I start to seek and often find a theme word for the following calendar year. What if you find yourself not finished with your word for this year, or what if it feel like you’ve fallen short of the goals for the word and for the year? Yep, that’s where I’m at. For example, I’m doing an A-Z of my word “Mystery.” You may have noticed I’ve only posted A-K. That’s because I’m not done. Here it is November and I’m… Read More

A-Z of Mystery Journal – K – Kingdom

The Mystery of the Kingdom of Heaven – K in the A-Z of Mystery Journal For years the concept of the Kingdom of Heaven or the Kingdom of God seemed so illusive. Ten years ago, I remember asking a few of my co-workers what the Kingdom of Heaven really looks like. We had a few good discussions, but it was still vague by the end of the conversations. I read through the gospels in the Bible and noted the word Kingdom (of God or Heaven). At that same time I also noted the references to the Holy Spirit. It was as… Read More

A-Z of Mystery Journal – J – Joy

The Mystery of Joy – J in the A-Z of Mystery Journal Joy is one of those things that makes one’s heart sing. The mystery of joy, at least for me, lies in the difference between joy and happiness. They are similar and can be expressed in similar ways, but joy goes deeper. Joy is an emotion of delight and gladness not dependent on circumstances. It expresses gratitude for beautiful experiences and is hopeful for something wonderful. “Joy is the echo of God’s life within us.” – Columba When thinking about how I was going to present the word JOY,… Read More
