K-Keys to Living Your Word of the Year

A key is a small thing that opens a larger, important experience. A question can be a key to the answer you're looking for. A key can unlock a mode of transportation that can take us on a journey to another place. A key can open up a space of a new world. A key can bring us home.

K.I.S.S.

One of the most important keys for me is the K.I.S.S. formula:
Keep It Simple Sweetheart!

To keep on living my word of the year as we approach mid-year, it needs to be simple, easy to do. I tend to complicate things with endless research and unrealistic expectations. The surprising thing about my word of the year is that I had no idea the concept of living lite and light was going to be the main focus of the year so far. Personally, my key is to keep it lite.

Keep a Journal

One major key that helps me keep on living out my word of the year is to keep a journal. I don't put pressure on myself to write everyday, but if I miss a bunch of days I start to feel a bit lost. An ordinary journal is like a companion on my journey, to process with, to explore ideas, to record what I do, what is on my heart. to listen etc...

Kingdom Seeking

"Seek first the Kingdom of God
above and all else,
and live righteously,
and he will give you
everything you need."

-Matthew 6:33 NLT

The Kingdom of God is living a life of goodness, peace and wholeness
ruled by the Lord Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Know Who You Are and Who to Turn to

A key for me is to write a prayer in my journal. It can be a response to reading or the longing of my heart's desire, or both.

"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God,
You tell me who I really am, and not only that,
you grant me free access to God's
Kingdom of heaven,
keys
to open any and every door:
no more barriers between heaven and earth, earth and heaven."

- my prayer based on Matthew 16:17-19
The Message

Kick It! Keep On Keeping On

In other words, don't give up, don't beat yourself up for not living your word perfectly.I am working to live my word "Light" by lightening the load I place on myself, focus on what I have done more than what I haven't done well, and take a small step today of living light, remembering my keys:

  • K.I.S.S. (Keep it Simple Sweetheart)

  • Keep a Journal

  • Kingdom Seeking

  • Know Who I am and Who to Turn to

Your keys may be different…

This hymn sums up my prayer for the key to live out my word `Light`

Place in my hand the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free.

Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready my God, Thy will to see;

Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit Divine!"
