Capricorn Constellation - January planner journal
Welcome to the new year planner journal. At the beginning of each year, I set up a new calendar-planner journal, although this year is a bit different. I began a new journal in August-September of 2022, at the head of the Hebrew calendar featuring biblical Zodiac constellations as my planner theme. Virgo the maiden constellation begins the first act of the biblical story written in the stars. You can find the set up post here: https://www.valeriesjodin.com/blog/august-2022-new-planner-journal-set-up
This month is a good month to start a journal with the Capricorn constellation celebrating the beginning of the second act of God’s story in the stars, that shows the story from a different angle.
If you are looking for planner set-up inspiration, you will find numerous Planner posts and tutorials from previous years in the blog menu.
Capricorn
The Zodiac constellation of Capricorn, also called Capricornus, is the fifth constellation of God’s celestial story in the stars. This year the dates for Capricorn are December 25, 2022 - January 22, 2023, which according to the Hebrew calendar is the month of Tovet.
As we enter a new year with the constellation Capricorn, we also enter into the second Act of the Cosmic story.
The first act included the four previous constellations and their themes of describing the Person who would come to save the World: Virgo - proclaiming the coming of the Redeemer as a man, Libra - the scales of justice and the price to be paid, Scorpio - the battle He would fight with the enemy, and Sagittarius - the victory He would win.
If you’re starting a new yearly calendar, Capricorn is also a good place to start since it begins the story that was started with Virgo, but from a different angle.
Act 2 of the Cosmic Story begins
The second act opens with an unusual mermaid-type creature, the Sea Goat, and is related to the following three constellations: Aquarius, Pisces, and Aries. These four constellations focus more on the results of the redeeming work Yeshua/Jesus did rather than describing the Person of Christ.
Capricorn is the second dimmest of all the Zodiac constellations, suggesting its mysterious unknown origin, and the meaning behind its symbolism.
The symbolism of the Goat Fish -The Goat
In Christianity, this goat represents the sacrifice of Christ. The goat portion in this constellation, is usually pictured bowing its head, laying down with a leg underneath. The goat was a sacrificial animal used often as a sin offering according to Hebrew Scripture.
Leviticus 9:3 NKJV
And to the children of Israel you shall speak, saying, ‘Take a kid of the goats as a sin offering, and a calf and a lamb, both of the first year, without blemish, as a burnt offering
Leviticus 16:15-16 NKJV
Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, which is for the people, bring its blood inside the veil, do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and before the mercy seat. So he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, for all their sins; and so he shall do for the tabernacle of meeting which remains among them in the midst of their uncleanness.
(See also Leviticus 10:16,17; Leviticus 16)
2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT
For God made Christ, who never sinned,
to be the offering for our sin,
so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
The symbolism of the Goat Fish - The Fish
The goat and the fish symbolize the union of the one sacrificed (Yeshua/Jesus) to the one sacrificed for (humanity). In the gospel of Matthew, when Jesus called his first disciples, they were fishermen and he invited them to become fishers of men.
*
Matthew 4:18-20 NKJV
And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
*
It wasn’t only for those disciples that Jesus called and sacrificed his life for. In a prayer to His Father, Jesus/Yeshua includes us who believe.
*
John 17:18-19 NLT Jesus is speaking:
Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.
*
John 17:20-23 NKJV
I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
The fish became the earliest Christian symbol. The living vibrant fish emerged out of the sacrificial sin offering of the goat, bringing new life.
The dying goat (Jesus/Yeshua) gave life to the fish (humanity), and we are joined together with him.
*
Hebrews 2:14-15 NLT
Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.
*
2 Corinthians 5:17 NRSV
So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:
everything old has passed away;
see, everything has become new!
Stars of Capricorn
The Christian significance and the dual nature of Christ Jesus as both God and human is found in the names of the stars, and reflected in the binary star systems within the constellation.
Capricorn contains a number of binary star systems, which are two stars that appear so close together from Earth’s perspective that they look like one star.
Al Giedi, Arabic for ‘the goat’ is one of those stars. Al Giedi is the third brightest star in Capricorn, but is often listed first because it represents the head of the Sea goat.
The second brightest star, with a magnitude of 3.05, is named Dabih, meaning ‘butcher’ or ‘the sacrifice.’ It is also a binary star, two stars that appear as one; the brighter one called Dabih Major and the less brighter one: Dabih Minor.
Nashira is a white giant star in Capricorn whose name in Arabic means ‘bearer of good news.’
Deneb Algedi is the brightest star in the constellation, also a binary star system, with a magnitude of 2.87. Its name means ‘the tail of the goat.’
The final named star in Capricorn is Alshat, which means ‘the sheep to be slaughtered.” It is a blue white giant with a magnitude of 4.7.
Six stars have been discovered to have planets orbiting them, and Capricorn us known to have four galaxies seen in the constellation with large telescopes.
The constellation illustration below show how close Capricorn is to Aquarius, the Water Bearer. These two constellations, as well as the following one Pisces, are related in their rich symbolism of our relationship with the God of the Cosmos.
Galatians 1:3-5 NKJV
Grace to you and peace from God the Father
and our Lord Jesus Christ,
who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us
from this present evil age,
according to the will of our God and Father,
to whom be glory forever and ever.
Amen.

Look up into the heavens.
Who created all the stars?
He brings them out like an army,
one after another, calling each by its name.
Because of his great power and incomparable strength,
not a single one is missing.
Isaiah 40:26 NLT

The story of God’s plan for humanity is written in the stars. It was written before the written Word was written. God named the stars which come together to tell more details of His story.
He counts the number of the stars;
He calls them all by name.
