Making a Calendar in My Everyday Journal

Making a Calendar in My Leuchtturm Journal The good and bad thing about making an everyday journal out of a blank (dotted or grid) journal is that it is blank – the good is full of possibilities, no pressure with blank dated pages to make you feel guilty, or being overwhelmed by the 12 grids of calendar months staring blankly etc. The bad, or can be bad, is the blankness of the whole journal can feel overwhelming, bringing up questions like: What do I include? What do I include first, second, and so forth? I usually feel all of these… Read More

Journaling a Word of the Year ~ Connections and Community

Community, Connections, and Creativity Journaling with a Word of the Year As I am getting my new journal ready for the new year, it occurs to me that the main reason I begin a new everyday journal each year is because it gives me hope. There is nothing like getting a new journal, pristine and full of possibility. Receiving or choosing a word to focus on throughout the year is a good place to start in the new journal, which is so blank and waiting to be filled page by page. I don’t know if you feel this way, but… Read More

Bible Journaling – Christmas Baby Dedication

Bible Journaling ~ Christmas Baby Dedication Luke 2:30-32 Here are some of the words of Simeon, a good man who loved God and received a promise that he would not die until he saw the Messiah, the Anointed One of God. “With my own eyes I have seen your Word, the Savior you sent into the world. He will be glory for your people Israel, and the Revelation Light for all people everywhere.” Luke 2:30-32 TPT This passage reminds me that God keeps His promises, and encourages me to keep seeking Jesus in my everyday life. Listening for My Word of the Year

Listening for My Word of the Year There are many ways to “receive” or “get” a word of the year as a focus. For me, a word is often revealed through one of two ways. Usually it is found through listening and then waiting, and watching for a word to be highlighted to me over the next few weeks or months. By listening I mean getting in a quiet space, praying, asking for a word to be a focus and lived out the next year. By just asking, I am prompted to pay attention, to seek, and then find. As… Read More

Why journal? The Benefits…

The Benefits of Journaling… Why I Journal: To remember – This may be the catalyst for all my journaling. Remembering includes recording events both ordinary and celebratory, experiences and relationships, exploration of ideas and information. Through writing, it is easier for me to re-member, put together and make sense of the various aspects of my life experience in a positive way. Life is short and time flies by. So often, so does my recollection of things that in the moment are important to me. Journaling keeps a witness of my life story and what I value. To gain insight and… Read More

Looking Back and Looking Forward – 2017/2018

’tis the season… Even though this time of year in the Pacific Northwest brings cold rain, short days and long nights, there are things I love about the season. It is a time of looking back, celebrating holidays of gratitude, the gift of God’s presence, and relationships of friends and family. It is also a time of looking forward. One thing I love about this time of year is the finishing my yearly journal and breaking open a new one, pristine and full of possibility. The treasure hunt of my word of the year is underway and with it comes… Read More

Receiving a Miracle

We prayed for a miracle… Over the past few months, our older daughter Jennie, pregnant with her second child, has had some health issues. The ultrasounds also showed concerns for the baby’s health and development. We have had amazing friends rally and pray. The birth was scheduled and the NICU team ready to whisk the newborn off to care for him, BUT it wasn’t needed. Baby Asher, whose name means happy and blessed, surprised everyone and was born just over six pounds, with good health scores. In considering the miracle of health for Asher, believing prayer changes things, and miracles… Read More

Letting Go… Release in this Season…

Release and Let Go During this Fall Season… It is a beautiful autumn here in the Pacific Northwest. As I walked with my daughter and grand-daughter in a nearby park recently, the leaves falling and dancing to the ground reminded me to let go of what no longer serves me well. It has been a year of letting go of expectations, understanding life and death, my dreams and ideas, putting me in a posture of listening, waiting, walking through the open door, past the closed ones. Trusting… Moved by the color of sweet surrender dancing to the ground, accepting the… Read More
