February 2022 Planner Journal Set-Up

Flip through video & photos

Setting up this month’s planner journal pages came at a time when I was recovering from a cold and having some hand and thumb issues that have impacted my ability to write and draw. It made me glad I decided to use more mixed media and collage in my journal this year.

Here is a flip-through video of February’s planner journal pages.

For February, like many others, I tend to focus on the heart, and this year the condition of the space  in my heart. When I stop to consider the Great Creator of the Cosmos, is the same God who made me, loves me, died for me, and lives in my heart, I am filled with gratitude and awe. He will never leave me and that is a great comfort.

For 2022 I’ve decided to feature a hymn on the cover spread for the month. Usually the hymns have the theme of the cosmos, majesty of God and nature. This month’s hymn focuses on God’s presence that enables us to go through anything in Abide with Me.

“Trust in the LORD, and do not rely
on your own opinions. With all your heart
rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you
in every decision you make.
Become intimate with him in whatever you do,
and he will lead you wherever you go.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 TPT

Abide with Me was written by Francis Lyte. He was born in Kelso, Ireland in 1793. His father, Captain Lyte, died while he was a child, and he moved with his mother to Dublin where he was educated. He wanted to study medicine but instead took Holy Orders into the Church at age twenty-two. He was a sensitive soul and deeply impacted by the illness and death of a brother clergyman. In 1819 he began to show signs of tuberculosis. He accepted the Fisherman’s parish of Brixham on the Sea. There he loved and served his people well. When it became evident he needed to move to a warmer climate for his health, filled with tenderness, he wrote this hymn and gave it to them as a parting gift. Three months later he died in Nice, France.

Abide with Me

4 I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless,
ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

5 Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes.
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks and earth's vain shadows flee;
in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.

1 Abide with me: fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

2 Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away.
Change and decay in all around I see.
O thou who changest not, abide with me.

3 I need thy presence every passing hour.
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who like thyself my guide and strength can be?

Pages in my journal

I chose to repeat some of the same headings, such as my thankful and workflow pages, using the same stencils and styles of titles. Then changed it up with color, the hearts for this month and the stencil on the workflow page.

This month using stencils and digital download papers made the set-up go much faster for me. Making calendar pages each month has been a fulfilling practice for me and provides a record and guidebook for daily living. It helps me go onward and forward, looking upwards.

Grace & Peace
Valerie
