Gemini constellation info + June planner journal

Welcome to June’s planner pages with the biblical focus of the Zodiac constellation Gemini.

Gemini

The Zodiac constellation of Gemini the twins is the ninth constellation, and marks the 10th month of the Biblical story in the night sky. This year the dates for Gemini are May, 21-June 19, 2023, which according to the Hebrew calendar is the month of Sivan.

The symbols of this constellation are varied, although all of them depict two people united together. In the ancient Egyptian Dendera Zodiac, the twins, Castor and Pollux are shown as a man and a woman holding hands (shown above.) This suggests the unity we have in Yeshua/Christ Jesus.

“God has united you with Christ Jesus.
For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself.
Christ made us right with God;
he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.”

1 Corinthians 1:30 NLT

In the illustration below, by Jamieson, Castor and Pollux are shown as cherub-like children or boys, one holding a club and one a bow and arrow, with a harp between them, suggesting brotherhood. The weapons of club and arrow are not in action, and they appear to be resting and celebrating with music after victory.

The two figures of Gemini could also refer to the duality of Christ, being fully God and fully man. As man, Yeshua suffered and died for our redemption. As God he resurrected to life from death, being glorified to complete our salvation and victory.

One thing Gemini clearly communicates is unity. In Hebrew the name for Gemini was Thaumim, meaning ‘The United.’ There is a derivative of the word in Exodus 26:24 that refers to the boards of the Tabernacle being joined together. It may also be connected to the Thummin stone the Jewish high priests wore as one of the ways God revealed His will to Israel. In Arabic Gemini had a similar name and meaning, Altauman. In the Coptic language the word used for Gemini was Pi-mahi, which also means The United.

The theme of unity in Gemini points to the Scripture in John 17 where Yeshua/Jesus is praying that we will be one as He and The Father are One.

“And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you,
the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.
I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.
Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.
“I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world.
They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you,
for I have passed on to them the message you gave me.
They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.”

John 17:3-8 NLT

*

“I have given them the glory you gave me,
so they may be one as we are one.
I am in them and you are in me.
May they experience such perfect unity that the world
will know that you sent me and that
you love them as much as you love me.

John 17:22-23

The constellation of the twins holds the prophetic promise that God’s children will become like Christ.

“Beloved, now we are children of God;
and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be,
but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him,
for we shall see Him as He is.”

1 John 3:2 NKJV

The Stars of Gemini

Gemini refers to two famous twins that the brightest stars are named after: Castor and Pollux.

The Greeks called the two bright starts Apollo (Castor) and Hercules (Pollux). In the Bible the ship that Paul traveled on that resulted in a shipwreck, in Acts 28:11, was named ‘Castor and Pollux.’ Ironically, Castor and Pollux were known as the stars pagans prayed to for navigation.

There are 85 stars listed in the constellation of Gemini, two of the second magnitude and four of the third.

There is much folklore surrounding Castor and Pollux. Castor is a white star, the second brightest in the Gemini constellation. Some of my sources list Castor as meaning Ruler or Judge, and others refer to it as meaning ‘lightful’ or ‘to excel or shine.’ Pollux is a little brighter and has an orange hue. Pollux is referred to mean ‘Who comes to labor or suffer’ and also as ‘sweet.’ I wonder if these refer to different aspects of the constellation’s symbolism, a reconciliation of opposites?

Here are the meanings of the other main stars in Gemini:
Mebsuta - treading underfoot.
Wasat - set,’set His face like flint’
Alhena - hurt, wounded or afflicted
ProPus - (Hebrew) the branch

The Hope of Gemini

The Apostle Paul says,

“So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.”

Romans 8:15-23 NLT

“Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror,
but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.
All that I know now is partial and incomplete,
but then I will know everything completely,
just as God now knows me completely.”

1 Corinthians 13:12

June’s Moon

This month’s moon is called a strawberry moon because the berries begin to ripen. In my research I learned that the European full moon for June is also referred to as the ‘Honey’ moon, so I decided to add the honey and bee imagery to this month’s visual theme. The beehive, a symbol of unity, and the sweetness of honey as well as berries bring encouragement and joy. It’s also interesting that June is the month that is most known for weddings and honeymoons.
