Word Theme Journals

A single word can be a beginning of a beautiful artful and mixed media journey. Here are some of my themed journals. I hope you enjoy them and are inspired to venture into expressing your unique creative style focusing on a theme. The journals included here are done on watercolor paper using mixed media, waterproof pen, fluid acrylic paint, collage. The journals included here are the themes of:

Wonder - Word of the Year - Identity - Gratitude - Faith - Hope - Shalom

Wonder Poetry Journal

Wonder - my word of the year poetry journal is finished and there is flip-through video. This journal features various types of poetry, personally written and inspired by my word of the year. Check out these blog posts that show much more of the journal and a video flip-through:

The blog post https://www.valeriesjodin.com/blog/art-in-real-life-12-poetry-word-of-the-year-journal shows the beginning of this Word of the year poetry journal, starting with Haiku, Tanka, and Cinquain poetry.

This journal plus the vertical poetry journal (shown below) are both made out of 1 sheet of 22”x30” watercolor paper. The process flowed and I will definitely be making other similar ones. The easy making and versatility of the accordion journal (also called Concertina) gets me excited to make similar journals.

A few months ago I made an accordion journal, with the help of my new Vintage stencils, listing some basic poetry structures.

Word of the Year Accordion Journal

This journal actually covers the words of a few years. I usually include my Word theme of the year in my Calendar ~ Everyday journal. This journal is an added art journal that featured my words that seemed to flow into one another with imagery that is meaningful and symbolic to me. It was really fun making the accordion journal come out of the repurposed old hymnal cover.

Identity Journal

This journal is about my identity in Christ. The journal and content were prompted by an art journal challenge created by Bernice Hopper based on messages about Identity given by Rob Davey, pastor at Solihull Church, UK.

Gratitude Journal

This Gratitude journal was the first one I did of this kind in a Thanksgiving challenge led by Bernice Hopper, An Attitude of Gratitude.

Faith Journal

This journal is my statement of faith as a personal walk expressed in color, shapes, symbols and words.

Hope Journal

This journal was done to bring hope and also taught as a series of e-courses, now retired

Shalom Journal

This Shalom journal, made in a spiral watercolor journal, was made during a time when I was seeking deeper wholeness and peace. Part of my process is doing Word studies, looking up Scripture, meaningful quotes, and meditating on those things as I write and express myself artistically.
