We are the Woman at the Well…part 5

     These pages were done as a simple prayer, made even more beautiful when prayed both on an individual level and in community. The vessels are in shapes of various water jugs from around the world, each an individual. The transparent boxy pedestals represent different places in life and personal journeys. For me the illustration is a symbol of Jesus' prayer in John 17:20-23 NLT:

"I am praying not only for these disciples 

but also for 

all who will ever believe in me through their message. 

I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one - 

as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. 

And may they be in use so that the world will believe you sent me.

I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. 

I am in them and you are in me. 

May they experience such perfect unity 

that the world will know that you sent me and 

that you love them as much as you love me."

      Making this 2-page spread was really fun. This journal was a demo for my most recent art journaling workshop, and I used a number of techniques we did in class. The torn paper background I learned years ago from Claudine Hellmuth. I bought her DVD and bought her two books.  I put a coat of matte medium on top of the torn paper background, let it dry, and dragged a few stokes of watered fluid acrylics on the top of the page. Then I sprayed it with water and tilted it up to drip down the page. I used the painted papers we had done in class: shaving cream painting, floetrol painting, and stained tissue paper. , February 22nd, the same post as mentioned in my last post. I painted the tissue paper a little bit differently. I used the acid free archival tissue paper and put it on freezer paper (waxy side up) Then I diluted the fluid acrylics with a big wet brush and brushed on the color. It worked well. I tried regular tissue paper, but it was much more fragile. There was some success when I gently brushed matte medium onto the regular tissue paper first, but it is by far superior to use the higher quality tissue paper. I glued the papers on with either matte medium and/or semigloss regular gel medium.
