He Is Risen! Bible-Hymn Journaling
He is Risen Indeed!
This week I spent some time reading the Gospel resurrection accounts in the Bible. Matthew and Mark record it the most similarly. I like that each one is different, like different witnesses seeing specific events and people from their own viewpoint. This actually gives more credibility to the Scripture in my view. I chose to Bible journal Mark's record in Mark 16, mostly because the pages directly followed the crucifixion page I did with the cross on Mark 15.
Mark 16:1-8 NLT
Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on Sunday morning, just at sunrise, they went to the tomb. On the way they were asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?”4But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside.
When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The women were shocked,6 but the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body.7 Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died.”
The women fled from the tomb, trembling and bewildered, and they said nothing to anyone because they were too frightened.

I'm finding I like the blank page to journal. I'm one of those people who don't like to cover up the Bible text when I journal, so having the added page gives a lot more room for illustrating, journaling, research and illuminations. The down side is it's pretty thick with all the added pages. I won't likely be taking this one to church or in my bag when I travel. It's more a stay-at-home Bible for personal study and creative expression. I picked the plain tan cover because I wanted to paint the cover like a vintage book (link below.) I'm excited to show you that but am waiting until the stencils I used are available.I love hymns. My mom was a pianist and played often at home and church. I grew up learning many hymns which still bring me comfort and I find myself singing them often. It is one thing I miss in church and believe their message, "singability," and rich story would enhance and broaden contemporary church worship, but that is another subject. For this page, the hymn Christ the Lord is Risen Today is used as the background. I found myself humming resurrection hymns as I painted.For these Bible Journaling pages, I drew on art journaling, collage and acrylic painting techniques.
