The inspiration and possibilities for this 100 day project keep coming. Why is that?
I think some of he reasons are:
I kept using simple and easily accessible materials
I didn’t put pressure on myself to perform
I worked spontaneously, but also gave myself the freedom to have a loose plan
My process evolved to focusing on the four entries on one page rather than just one square at a time. It was more doable for me to do one step on more than one square at a time, such as sketching one day, drawing another, painting another, and writing anytime I felt like it
I found new inspiration from a new book and artist, Danielle Donaldson
When I felt a bit blank, I perused Pinterest for ideas
After doing so many entries at this point, I really believe that the more I create the more I can create
There is no end to
our creative possibilities!
Days 79-82
It’s not often I’m inspired by a new book, but Danielle Donaldson’s book, The Art of Creative Watercolor, really is inspiring me. I bought it because I saw some of her sewed collage borders, and am planning to experiment with that type of collage. The watercolor with salt square grids were a bonus and I thought they would make a great base to build on for my 100 day project. You can see part of the page in her book below on the left side of the photo. Danielle also does a lot of her art using pencil and watercolor, so that was another inspiring bonus for me. I used mostly pencil to draw and shade in these squares, in addition to the black pen I have been using.
I did not have a preconceived idea for what would go in each of the square shapes. I did look through Pinterest though. There are quite a few drawings of flora on top of watercolor squares, so I used that theme on the top right one, although I didn’t actually look at one to use as a reference. As I spent time with each watercolored square, I began to see a glimmer of images emerge, which is how the imagery began. I decided to leave the last square blank so I would remember what they looked like before I drew on them.

Days 83-86
In the following four entries, I chose to begin spontaneously with the idea of including the specific shape of triangles. I chose a different color palette for these too, reverting back to an old favorite combo: Quinacridone Gold, Phthalo Turquoise, Indigo, and Magenta. To get started, I often begin with one color, usually the lightest one.
