Pisces Constellation - March planner journal

Welcome to March’s planner pages with the biblical focus of the Zodiac constellation Pisces.

Pisces

The Zodiac constellation of Pisces is the seventh constellation of God’s celestial story in the stars. This year the dates for Pisces are February 22-March 22, 2022, which according to the Hebrew calendar is the month of Adar. Pisces is a large but faint constellation with 113 stars.

Pisces is seen as two fish connected by another star group called ‘The Band’ marked by a V-shaped line of stars. In ancient times Pisces and The Band were separate constellations, but in modern times they are all considered a part of Pisces. The Band is tied to the tails of both fish.

One of the fish moves vertically upward towards Polaris, the North Star. The other fish swims horizontally along the ecliptic, the path of the sun goes through the Zodiac constellations.

The Egyptian name for Pisces is Pi-cot Orion, or Piscis Hori, which has been translated to mean ‘the fishes of Him that is coming’ or ‘protection.’ In middle eastern Babylonia, Syria, and Persia, Pisces has been translated to simply mean ‘Fish.’

These fish of Pisces are separate from the fish, Pisces Austrinus, connected to the previous constellation Aquarius, which symbolizes drinking from the outpouring of the Spirit.

The fish is the oldest symbol of Christianity. Yeshua/Jesus the Christ chose a number of fishermen to be his closest followers, and fed thousands with fish. He called his disciples to be ‘fishers of men.’

 Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven,
and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces,
he kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could
distribute it to the people. He also divided the fish for everyone to share.
They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward,
the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish.
A total of 5,000 men and their families were fed.

Mark 6:41-44 NLT

Jesus called out to them,
 “Come, follow me, and
I will show you how to fish for people!”

Matthew 4:19 NLT

The fish represent peoples, the multitudes, and show God has a plan for His people and the nations.

The plan of the Lord stands forever,
The plans of His heart from generation to generation.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people He has chosen for His own inheritance.

Pisces and the seed of Abraham

In Genesis 15:4-6 (NASB), God meets with Abraham and blesses him years before Abraham had any children:

Then behold, the word of the Lord came to him… And He took him outside and said,
“Now look toward the heavens and count the stars, if you are able to count them.”
And He said to him, “So shall your descendants (seed) be.”
Then he believed in the Lord; and He credited it to him as righteousness.

Pisces represents the seed of Abraham and people who are in covenant with God, both in the natural and supernatural. A common interpretation of the biblical symbolism of Pisces is that the fish facing horizontally along the ecliptic represents God’s people of Earth and the fish pointing upward represents Israel, God’s chosen people. This is illustrated when Jacob blessed Josephs sons in Genesis 48:15-16 (NASB)

And he blessed Joseph, and said,
“The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked,
The God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,
The angel who has redeemed me from all evil,
Bless the boys; And may my name live on in them,
And the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac;
And may they grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

In the Bible, Jacob, Joseph’s father is blessing him by blessing Joseph’s two sons, who were half Hebrew. It is the custom to bless the elder son with the greater blessing, but Jacob doesn’t do that, even though it displeased Joseph, recorded in Genesis 48:17-19:

"When Joseph saw that his father placed his right hand on Ephraim’s head,
it displeased him; and he grasped his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head.
And Joseph said to his father, “Not so, my father, for this one is the firstborn.
Place your right hand on his head.” But his father refused and said, “I know, my son, I know;
he also will become a people and he also will be great. However, his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his descendants shall become a multitude of nations.”

Many people, multitudes, are often compared to fish teeming in the sea. The two fish could be representing two sons, the older one being Israel, the Hebrew people, and the younger one the ‘multitudes of nations’ including all the people in the world adopted into God’s family through the blood of the Hebrew Yeshua/Jesus the Messiah.

Isaiah 61:9 CJB

Their descendants will be known among the nations,
their offspring among the peoples;
all who see them will acknowledge
that they are the seed Adonai has blessed.

The two fish don’t suggest an either/or situation with either Jew or Gentile, but an and/also connection that include both Jew and Gentile connected together by the Creator of the Universe who came as a human to live, die and be resurrected so we could be with Him forever.

Acts 14:1 NKJV

Now it happened in Iconium that
they went together to the synagogue of the Jews,
and so spoke that a great multitude
both of the Jews and of the Greeks believed.

Acts 17:4 NKJV

And some of them were persuaded;
and a great multitude of the devout Greeks,
and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas.

Band of Pisces

The two fish of Pisces are bound by the tails with a strong band. Band can also be translated as ‘cord, bridle or restraint.’ At the ‘V’  of the cord it often appears attached to the neck of Cetus, the sea monster constellation. It can represent the bond of sin and death. In the next Zodiac constellation we see the other intersection on the band between the fish is the foreleg of Aries the Ram (or Lamb) with its hoof on the band. This is a picture of Yeshua/Jesus the Christ who came to redeem all peoples from the bondage of sin and death.

The stars of Pisces

Pisces has few bright stars, so it can be difficult to locate. The two fish of Pisces can be found on either side of the Great Square of Pegasus, a more obvious asterism (part of a constellation or a group of easily identifiable stars). The asterism that most people look for in Pisces is the Circlet of stars.

At the bottom of the V-shape cord of Pisces is a star called Al Risha, meaning ’cord’ in Arabic.

Hope found in Pisces

The hope in Pisces speaks of abundance in the midst of conflict, enemies, and adversity, and the hope of One who comes to liberate the people and deliver out of bondage.

In John 10:10 (AMPC), Yeshua/Jesus says,

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy.
I came that they may have and enjoy life,
and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

*

Revelation 7:9 AMPC

After this I looked and a vast host appeared which no one could count,
 [gathered out] of every nation,
 from all tribes and peoples and languages.
These stood before the throne and before the Lamb;

*

Pisces represents the multitudes of people of God, both natural and supernatural. Speaking to Abraham in Genesis 22:17-18, God says,

”I will certainly bless you.
I will multiply your descendants beyond number,
like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore.
Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies.
And through your descendants
all the nations of the earth will be blessed—
all because you have obeyed me.”

The symbolism of Pisces also speaks of blessing and abundance in the midst if adversity and conflict, the Gospel of Christ, and the presence of the Lord through his people to reach the people of Earth. Although humanity may seem weak, like the faint stars of Pisces, there is a God who made it all, who knows each person, and still reigns.

What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord,
whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.
The Lord looks down from heaven
and sees the whole human race.
From his throne he observes
all who live on the earth.
He made their hearts,
so he understands everything they do.
